Ingrédients pour 4 personnes

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 cups of beef broth
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices of French baguette
  • 1 cup of grated Gruyère cheese

Etapes à suivre

Préparation : 30 minutes - Cuisson : 40 minutes
  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and water, then add the thyme and bay leaf.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, then bring the soup to a simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven broiler.
  7. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, then top each with a slice of baguette and a generous amount of Gruyère cheese.
  8. Place the bowls on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  9. Let the soup cool for a few minutes before serving.
